The mission of Project UNO is to empower and equip today’s men who have sex with men with essential needs to impact their purpose in life. The UNO mission is to challenge and engage these men to find strength on their own using the five S’s: Strength, Safe, Self Purpose, Sober, and Status. This project is for yoU to be New and Outstanding.
Project UNO, operated through Street Works & First Response Center is a free empowerment program engaging young, gay and bisexual men ages 16-35. Project UNO offers case management and groups helping clients focus on the five fundamentals for living better more vibrant lives: having self-purpose, being sober, strong and safe, and knowing one’s HIV status. Further, Project UNO focuses on assisting these young men battle substance abuse addiction and emphasizes prevention and care of those affected and infected with HIV. Finally, Project UNO actively tests for both HIV and HCV, engaging these young gay men through health information, harm reduction, prevention, and empowerment.
The target demographic that we aim to serve and engage is primarily gay or bisexual African American youth, however we are able to serve anyone who is working through issues relating to substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, or sexual identity. Finally, Project UNO’s mission is to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and to provide care and support services for those infected and affected through outreach, education, and advocacy in the communities of greatest risk.
